Paper, Pen, and Ink

Okay, here is a poem I wrote...It's called 'Paper, Pen, and Ink', and is a metaphor about life...

Paper, Pen, and Ink

Blank paper.
That’s it.
All you got.
Better make it worthwhile,
Because you’ve only got one shot.

Black lines.
Drawn in ink.
How easy is it, really?
Much easier it is, I think,
To think, not write it down in ink.

Hurried thoughts.
One-color pen.
Black, not red, blue, pink, or rainbow.
DAMN!
The ink’s smudged.
One mistake
Can make quite a difference in the life you make.
Trust me.

If life were written in mechanical pencil…
Wouldn’t that be great?
Never making a single mistake that can be unmaked?
But then again, that’d be too dull…
Too hard to see after time goes by…graphite fades,
And erasers turn to stubs.

Life’s a novel;
One could say,
A short story.
Though we don’t know this til we’re old.
Hey, weren’t you a child yesterday?
No, wait,
That’s back at chapter one, I’d say…

Then the book closes.
No sequel.
No epilogue.
It’s finished.
So you’d better make your life,
A tale worth telling.

Make a difference.
Live your life.
Be careful not to smudge the ink.
But if you do…

Don’t worry!
You can always make up for that smudge
With something beautiful…
If only you are dutiful,
To grow upon what’s wrong in life.
